EXCEPTIONS: (When Nadcap Accreditation is NOT Required)
ALL TECHNOLOGIES:
Nadcap accreditation is not required for Boeing specifications when used for D-590 fastener production.
Boeing sites and wholly owned subsidiaries are exempt from holding a Nadcap accreditation for any D1-4426 process which has a Nadcap commodity code assigned.
Domestic or international defense organizations such as Air Force, Navy, Army, Marine and their logistics or fleet readiness centers are exempt from Nadcap accreditation for processing product for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) programs. This exemption includes NASA or international space agencies.
AEROSPACE QUALITY SYSTEM: Quality system is only required when one or more other approved special processes require Nadcap accreditation.
CHEMICAL PROCESS Technology for: BAC 5793 and DPS4.50-127 (fuel tank coating) when the Processor has no other chemical processes that require Nadcap approval BAC 5719 Type IV, Class E (Laminated Aluminum shims and shim stock) Brush cadmium and/or brush nickel plating when the supplier has no other chemical processes that require Nadcap approval Etch inspection for hardening / retempering burns when the supplier has no other Chemical processes or NDT processes that require Nadcap approval. -- Note that a Nadcap audit of etch inspection for hardening / retempering burns may be performed by a NDT or Chemical Process auditor. Pre-penetrant Etch in conjunction with a NDT accreditation Pre-cleaning for weld preparation
| |
(Clarification: a NDT or Weld audit shall include a review of the adequacy of the pre-penetrant etch or cleaning in conjunction with that special process audit, if the facility has that capability) |
Note that a Nadcap audit of the Pre-penetrant Etch or Pre-cleaning will be accepted but is not required.
Copper plating used solely for carburization/decarburization protection when the supplier has no other chemical processes that require Nadcap approval.
| |
(Clarification: a Heat Treat or Chemical Processing audit shall include a review of the adequacy of the copper plating if either audit is performed at that facility) |
Process Solution Control (809) or Salt Spray Testing (810) when the supplier has a Nadcap Materials Testing Laboratories (MTL) accreditation for the test method.
Taber abrasion testing in accordance with ASTM D4060 and FED-STD-141 Method 6192.1, when the supplier/lab has no other mandate for a Nadcap chemical process accreditation.
Sol-Gel Coating Application Process when the Processor has no other chemical processes that require Nadcap approval.
Supplemental chemical conversion coating applied only on ion vapor deposition (IVD) aluminum.
COMPOSITES Technology for: Machining of nonmetallic core BAC 5514 Metal Bonding when the processor only applies bonding primer Composite processing for MRB Purposes Composite and Metal Bond specifications that include application of adhesive primer and bonding, and the processor only performs priming Composite and Metal Bond processing where the processor performs layup or curing but not both processes. Note: Nadcap does not accredit to individual sub-processes for layup or cure.)
HEAT TREATMENT Technology for: Full or Partial Annealing of Aluminum when parts will be subsequently heat treated to a final temper Hot Forming Only of Titanium in a furnace when not combined with stress relief Hot Forming of any kind when performed in a heated die press
Stress Relief, except for Titanium
Conductivity Testing or Hardness Testing at any company that does not also have approval for a heat treating specification listed in D1-4426.
Hydrogen Embrittlement Relief
(Clarification: a Chemical Process or Weld audit shall include a review of the adequacy of the Embrittlement Relief or Stress Relief in conjunction with that special process audit, if the facility has that capability)
NOTE: A Nadcap audit of Stress Relief or Hydrogen Embrittlement Relief may be accepted but is not required.
NOTE: The Nadcap Heat Treating task group accepts accreditation for Hardness Testing given by the Materials Testing Laboratories (MTL) Task Group (AC7101/5).
SURFACE ENHANCEMENT for: Self contained rotary only Manual and/or portable shot peening when used for repair/rework only When Shot Peening is used solely for straightening BAC 5730-1 PSD 6-9
NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING Technology for: NDT for MRB Purposes Radiographic/neutron radiographic inspection for pyrotechnic device placement Radiographic inspection of electronic components Magnetic Particle inspection when approval is limited to portable electro magnetic yokes. (Nadcap NDT does not grant accreditation for this limited method) NDI Level 3 Personnel Certification at suppliers or entities that are only approved to provide Level 3 support test services. Sometimes referred to as "consultant Level 3's." (They do not have the corresponding NDT approval for performing the actual NDT inspection.)
| |
(Clarification: a Nadcap audit of NDT shall include a review of the adequacy of the NDI Level 3 Personnel certification in conjunction with the NDT inspection audit, if the facility has that capability. Nadcap does not perform audits for the sole purpose of reviewing NDT Level 3's nor does it provide a specific accreditation for NDT Level 3's.) |
MATERIAL TESTING for:
Process codes 802-Mechanical Testing and 803-Metallurgical Testing, AND that testing is performed as internal support only (by in-house labs) in support of coating processes (such as BAC5851 and DPS9.89).
Testing performed as internal support only (by in-house labs), AND that testing has been evaluated by Nadcap during the applicable Nadcap special process audit.
| |
(For example: Nadcap accreditation for 809-Solution Control or 802-Mechanical Testing are not required at a company that is Nadcap accredited Chemical Processing or Heat Treatment if the scope of those audits covered the Solution Control or Mechanical Testing.) |
Independent Test Labs testing to process codes 801-Hydrogen Embrittlement, 802-Mechanical Testing, 803-Metallurgical Testing, and/or 807-Fracture Toughness Testing, AND that testing has a Nadcap Chemical Processing accreditation.
| |
(Clarification: this exception is for Independent Test Labs in support of chemical processing suppliers, i.e. 300 series process codes. Test labs which provide support to other processors, e.g. heat treaters, require a Nadcap Materials Testing Laboratories (MTL) accreditation.)
|
WELDING PROCESSES for: Resistance brazing method Tack welding when the tack weld is consumed by a subsequent welding or brazing operation Inertia Welding: When a processor's welding approval is to one or more of the following Process Codes: 271, M271 or L271, AND the approval is limited to a specific Boeing program or specific Boeing part numbers.
Clarifications to the above exceptions:
Support Specifications (those testing approvals with process code numbers in the 800s) shall be reviewed during the associated Nadcap special process audit if the company has the capability for that testing in-house. For example: A chemical process audit shall consist of the plating/coating specifications and the chemical laboratory, if one exists in-house.
An audit of a NDT shop shall consist of the nondestructive testing specifications and the certification for the Level III, if one exists in-house.
THESE EXCEPTIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE
