#1. BAC001 Preface Information
The following applies to BAC specifications only:
1. The activity status of Boeing process specifications falls into four categories:
Active, Inactive, Obsolete and Withdrawn.
- "Active" specifications are actively in use and the information is kept up-to-date.
- "Inactive" specifications have current use; however,
the processing information may not be technically up-to-date.
- "Withdrawn" and "Obsolete" specifications are no longer
required (no usage). The process specification was replaced with a single page noted "WITHDRAWN" or "OBSOLETE (See XXX-XXX)" (as applicable). PSDs to the specification are canceled.
2. Effectivity
- Process specifications and process specification departures (PSDs) are approved for use when
released. Specifications and PSDs are released when entered into and made available through
the "Product Standards Data System" (PSDS). PSDS is the release authority for process
specifications and PSDs.
- Specification revisions must be implemented within six months of release.
- PSD changes are either "requirement" or "option", as noted on the PSD(6-, 8-, & 9-).
"Option" PSDs may be implemented at the discretion of the affected
organizations. "Requirement" PSDs must be implemented
within three months of release unless otherwise noted on the PSD.
Note: All 1- PSDs are mandatory.
- "Committed Change" PSDs must be implemented as directed by change board activity.
- Hardware processed prior to implementation of superseding revisions and PSDs is acceptable
provided the times, as stated above, are not violated. (Effectively the "Planning
Note" is "Completed Hardware Satisfactory, Planning to Incorporate in Sequence.")

Single Companywide NDI Process Specifications (BSS)
The merged Boeing Company uses a variety of Process Specifications for each
NDI method, adding to cost of administration and surveillance.
In order to move toward single NDI Process Specifications for use at Boeing and its suppliers,
and with minimum impact and disruption to the present processes in place, it was decided to
implement harmonized Boeing Specification Support Standards (BSS) for major NDI methods.
These BSSs have undergone extensive review and coordination throughout The Boeing Company
prior to release.
Initially we implemented the BSSs in D1-4426 by "slashing" the BSS with the relevant
Boeing Heritage Process Specification (BACs). Because some Boeing heritage specifications
have been obsoleted and replaced with the harmonized BSS and others
have not, the D1-4426 will not "slash" the specifications but will keep
separate Process Code numbers for all the NDI specifications. For those
specification standards that had been slashed, we are unslashing them,
i.e. we have given them their own individual code number.
As with all specifications added to D1-4426, full implementation is expected within a six
month time period. Compliance to this requirement will be reviewed at the next scheduled process audit.
